The Six Dominant Characteristics

The Six Dominant Characteristics

In seasonal colour analysis, we look beyond hair and eye colour to identify the visual qualities that define your natural colouring. The three dimensions of colour—hue, value, and chroma—combine to create the Six Dominant Characteristics, a key part of understanding your unique personal style through colour.

LIGHT – Soft and delicate colouring. Light hair and light eyes, often with fair skin. Many have been natural blondes at some stage. In colour analysis, Light types are flattered by airy, luminous shades that won’t overpower their gentle features.

DEEP – Strong, rich, and dark colouring. Dark hair and dark eyes are common. These individuals shine in bold, saturated colours that match their depth and intensity—hallmarks of a deep seasonal colour palette.

WARM – Warm-toned skin with yellow or golden undertones. Redheads are often Warm types, though warm brunettes and golden blondes are common too. A warm seasonal colour palette—think earthy, golden, and rich—enhances this natural radiance.

COOL – Skin with blue undertones, often with a rosy glow in the cheeks. Eyes are frequently blue or grey. Cool types look their best in colours that are crisp and icy, drawn from the cool seasonal colour families of Summer and Winter.

CLEAR – High contrast and vivid clarity in the features. Sparkling eyes, bright colouring, and nothing muted. These individuals suit pure, clean colours that reflect their brightness—an important insight revealed through colour analysis.

MUTED – Soft, blended colouring with little contrast between hair, eyes, and skin. Muted types look best in subtle, dusty tones that reflect their gentle presence. Their seasonal colour palette is quiet, harmonious, and refined—perfect for expressing a soft yet intentional personal style.
